Cadillac 2008

Well, we now know it wasn't just car sickness. Anne got sick again in her crib last night so she was in the bathtub at 3am. No playdate for us today (we'll miss you Kaycee!) so we'll just have our coffee and watch Sesame Street this morning.

We were in Cadillac this past weekend. Marty and I have gone most summers since I met him. His sister Val and her husband Paul's whole family have been going to Pilgrim's Village for around 15 years, I think. It's pretty much just a couple rows of old (& kind of nasty!) cabins on Lake Mitchell. The attraction, of course, is the beach for Anne and boating, tubing, and jet skis for the older kids. And the food...the guys do a great job!

So, here are some of my first attempts with my new camera. The last pic should be a reminder to all that before you put your baby or toddler down for a nap in a Pack'n'Play in a strange place, you should check the surroundings. Good thing I checked on Anne shortly after she woke up. She had been able to reach cousin Nicole's make-up bag and was generously applying some mascara when I walked in. Thank goodness she wasn't interested in the razor that was also in the bag. It had a guard on it, but who knows...yikes. Another lesson learned.

Anne hasn't stopped talking about the pinata! She cried last year after she hit it, so I was a little worried. She was first to go again this year and couldn't even make a dent, but she enjoyed her sucker (and new friend) afterward!

Annie loves cousin Nicole (and her make-up). Good thing Anne thinks that all make-up goes on your cheeks and not on your eyes!

Poor baby!

After a nice relaxing weekend with the Morgans (Marty's sister Val's family) in Cadillac, our drive home last night was such a sad way to end the trip. Just before dropping Val's mother-in-law off in Northville at 11 pm, poor Anne woke up in her carseat and well, there's no pretty way to say it, puked all over herself. Although, we were glad it didn't happen earlier (we left Cadillac around 8 pm), it was so gross! Even once Anne calmed down, she said "it's yucky". She ended up throwing up two more times before we reached home and then a few more times settling down for bed. It broke my heart because we had such a fun trip and then she got so sick! Today she is sleepy but so far, so good on the tummy issue. So anyway, I've spent a good part of today cleaning and washing things up. Still need to upload my pics from the trip (taken with my new Canon Xti!) so for now I'll just post some cute ones with the old cam taken of Anne and her favorite guys, GrandDad and Dada, from last week.

Almost midnight...

Well, it's pretty late (at least for me it is) but I figured I should try to write something. I was planning to upload some pictures I took of Anne today at the Farms Pier, but after searching around the house for 15 minutes for my USB cable and not finding it, I've given up on that idea. I do remember Anne fooling around with the cable earlier today, but can't remember where (yes, I'm a horrible mother! I let her play with cords!) We did have a nice day at the Pier, although the baby pool was closed when we got there and Anne threw a fit when I wouldn't let her squeeze through the barricade they'd set up. I'm sure some kid pooped in the pool but I didn't bother explaining that to Anne. Anyway, the real excitement of the day was my big purchase at Circuit City tonight! Marty gave me the go-ahead to get my birthday present early and I was out the door to get my new digital SLR camera! Not that we can really afford it, but you only have a 31st birthday once, right?! Actually, I just listed 29 textbooks (all from my graduate work at Wayne State) on half.com a few days ago, hoping for some extra cash for my new camera and four have already sold, helping me justify my camera purchase! Hopefully you will all see my photography skills improve as I beef up my blog over the next few weeks (hmm...that doesn't really sound nice, "beef up my blog"). So, for tonight, since I can't upload any pics and have no clue how to get started with my brand new camera sitting here, I'll post some pics of our excursion from last week. Marty, his mom, Anne, & I had a fun trip to the Ann Arbor Art Fair. It was Anne's first trip to U of M and she was definitely a fan! Our only purchases were some Michigan gear (hats for the Marts and I) and a cute pink hoodie for Annie. It was fun to look at art but Marty found some other "attractions" that were more his taste (see pics below, and I don't mean to offend anyone)! That's all for now!

My Very First Blog!

Hello family and friends! I'm sure some of you (Jen, Stacy) will be very proud of me that I'm starting my own blog. I'm hoping my sisters get on board since we haven't been staying in touch very well lately (c'mon Julie and Briana, can't believe the two of you haven't done this yet)! Anyway, for anyone interested, check out my blog anytime if you're willing to see endless pictures of my little Annie, because I'm sure that's what most of this will be about! I guess as we get closer to Fall, I can also keep people posted about what's going on with Marty. Looks like he'll be leaving in mid-September for some training somewhere in the States and then after Christmas for Afghanistan (until August?) For now, we're just enjoying our summer and I'm loving my two months of being a SAHM (stay-at-home-mom...I knew some of you were wondering). So for my first post, I think I'll just post a few favorite pics from our summer up until now! The first pic is Anne on her birthday (June 22) saying "cheese"!
